Where it goes

Under the header or between sections on a mobile layout. On a site where most readers are on a phone this is not a secondary size — it is the primary one.

What it does to your layout

320 pixels is the width of the narrowest phones still in common use, so it fits every screen without scaling. Its 50-pixel height is deliberately small: it is meant to sit in the flow of a page without pushing content off the first screen.

What works inside it

One short line. There is no room for a second, and a subheading here will be set at the minimum size. Treat it as a name plus three or four words.

Text ads are fitted automatically: the embed measures the box and grows the type until it no longer fits, then steps back one — so a short heading in a big slot is set large, and the same heading in a small one is set small, without ever overflowing or being stretched.

What to charge for it

Lower than a leaderboard per slot, but it is seen by the majority of readers on most small sites, which often makes it the better-value slot to sell. You set the number, and can change it whenever you like. The calculator will turn a daily price into a monthly figure.
